Typeface Design: “HECSY”
Software: Adobe Illustrator
HECSY is an experimental display typeface developed as a conceptual response to over-playing of a mobile phone game “Cell Connect”. The letterforms mimic the visual features of the game and are based on a hexagonal grid system.
Conceptual Development: Building a typeface from a hexagon grid turned out to be more complicated than i anticipated. I struggled with issues such as multiple baselines, multiple letter widths and letters that would not work with the hexagon grid whatsoever. Ultimately I had to make the decision to have the letters all visually cohesive rather than fitting a strict grid system.
